Kitchen Cabinets

April 28th, 2008

There are so many brands of kitchen cabinets available, so I can understand why it is hard to choose what is best for your needs. I have had people call me and say they have to see the drawers work before they buy cabinets. Maybe these people are not Internet cabinet customers, but my response to an inquiry like this is that “I sell very nice cabinets that are manufactured by large cabinet manufacturers. They use quality hardware. In most cases you have the choice of standard drawer glides, or upgraded soft close glides. The drawers open and close smoothly.”

Another question I get on kitchen cabinets is about the construction. All of the assembled cabinets I sell are built using particle board. I do remodeling locally in Atlanta and use particle board cabinets. They are great cabinets and are very sturdy. If you want to upgrade, please do. I offer plywood construction in Marsh and Mid Continent Cabinetry. Lets face it, the manufacturers use particle borad to make the cabinets more affordable. If they didn’t last and the material wasn’t suited for the construction, they wouldn’t use it. As a consumer, you should decide if you want to spend money on the construction upgrade or something else.

Since I sell cabients and remodel kitchens, I get to talk to a lot of people about their desires. I find that most consumers would rather spend money on a drawer upgrade than the cabinet construction. The drawers are used day in and day out. Their construction is much more important to the long term functionality of a cabinet.

Kitchen cabinets are complicated to buy, but at US Home Products, we try to make it easy on the consumer. We offer full cabinet lines, show diagrams, prices and options on our website. We also have an online kitchen planner. It is basic, but it should help to determine how you would like to layout your cabinets.

New Door Style from Marsh

March 27th, 2008

Wow, I went for so long without writing and forgot to mention the new door styles from Marsh. I recently added 2 new styles. The Summerfield in Cherry and Maple. These doors mark a first for Marsh Furniture. They are the first framed Marsh Cabinets with full overlay doors. They are BEAUTIFUL! I also added the new finish, Cafe to the site. It is a really nice brown. Marsh needed this finish because Sienna is a little more reddish brown. Marsh will be adding 2 more full overlay doors in the near future and I will have them available to be purchased soon after they are released. I will most likely write about them as soon as they are available, so stay tuned for images and descriptions. You can see the new maple door and cherry door by clicking here - Summerfield Maple , Summerfield Cherry

Online Kitchen Planner

March 27th, 2008

It has been a while since I posted, but I am really excited about this one. I have been working to update US Home Products with a kitchen planner for months. I finally have it complete and it is on the site to be used. The online kitchen planner is a basic program that will allow a user to drag and drop cabinets into a room with dimensions that you add. I think it is a pretty cool program. I tried to integrate it as much as possible with my site so it has a few neat features. First, it will allow you to save a kitchen design and come back and modify it at a later date. Second, it lets you pick the door style and will give you a pretty good estimate of what it will cost to buy your cabinets. And last, it allows you to add all of the items to the cart for easy purchase. Right now it is only configured with one line of cabinets, but I expect to have the others added in the future. If oyu are looking for an easy to use, basic planner, check it out. I hope it helps and I hope you decide to buy cabinets from US Home Products.

Until next time, happy and safe remodeling!

Kitchen Details and Upgrades

November 20th, 2007

The details are what make a kitchen. Whether it is the extra time spent to make sure everything is installed nicely or extra money spent to add character to the kitchen, these are the things that you will look back on and you will be most proud of.

There are numerous moulding choices available from Marsh, High Point and Mid Continent. They range from small soffit moulding to universal crown moulding. When you are buying your cabinets, please make sure you look at the moulding. It really transforms the look of a kitchen.

One really nice thing to spend your money on is the wood drawer upgrade. Although you don’t see the drawer boxes when the drawers are closed, you will thank yourself for spending the money to upgrade every time you open a drawer. The wood drawers feel solid and look rich. They don’t cost as much as you think, so when you are pricing your kitchen, please consider this option. You wont regret it.

Another great upgrade is adding a glaze to the finish of your cabinet. Most cabinets that you will see have a standard finish. Although standard is very nice, the glaze really makes the finish stand out. And why are you upgrading your kitchen? Most likely because you want it to look nicer than it does currently. With the addition of the glaze, you have added a finish that will really make your kitchen look awesome!

Plywood cabinet upgrades are also nice. The plywood cabinet is very durable and nice. The interior and exterior of the cabinet box is finished in a natural stain that provides a beautiful look and durable surface. Although you can’t see the plywood cabinet from the outside, just like the wood drawer box, you will be glad you spent the money to upgrade.

All of these options are worth considering when you upgrade your kitchen and they are all available at www.ushomeproducts.com If your goal is to remodel your kitchen on a budget, or you are looking for really nice cabinets with numerous semi-custom upgrades, we can help. Marsh, High Point and Mid Continent all offer great values and beautiful cabinets.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Scheduling your Kitchen Remodel

October 28th, 2007

Remodeling your kitchen is a big project. If you do it yourself, you could be looking at a project that could take several weeks. There are things that you can do to make the project go more quickly and smoothly. I remodel locally in Atlanta and have a few things on my list that allow me to complete most jobs in about a week.

1. Before you tear your old kitchen cabinets out, find the kitchen cabinets you are looking for and order them. I sell three great lines of cabinets on my site and the lead time for all of them is less than 4 weeks. This is a pretty critical part of the entire project. The smart part about ordering the cabinets before you start is that you know when the old kitchen is torn out, there wont be any delays before starting to install the new kitchen cabinets.

2. Pick out your counter top and make sure you use a company that can measure and install them quickly. I use a granite supplier here in Atlanta that works very closely with me. They obviously want my business because of the number of kitchens I do in a year, but the point is that they template the day my cabinets are installed and come out the next day to install the granite. This is a HUGE time saver for me. I can work on finalizing other parts of the job while the granite is being put in and there isn’t any down time. If I had to wait 2 weeks for the counters, it would make the job take that much longer.

3. Pick out your tile, grout and paint prior to starting. Also, make sure that you have a comprehensive list of what will be required to complete the job. Good preparation will save you time during the job. Think about having to go to the hardware store every day for something. It is a huge waste of time and keeps you from progressing on the job. If you have already bought the correct items, you simply move on to that project. Like the tile, right after the granite is installed, you can move on to the tile.

4. The tile is another part that takes some planning because you can’t grout until the thin set is dry. I complete the tile in as little time as possible and then the next day I will grout. If I finish the tile work early in the day, I will work on other details so that after I grout, I can start cleaning up kitchen.

5. Order a dumpster and make sure it is there before you pull out your old kitchen cabinets. Cabinets take up a lot of space and if you aren’t going to use them, get them out of the way. It makes things a lot easier.

These were just a few tips that might help you save time during a kitchen remodel.

If you are on the fence about remodeling, you should know that there are a number of reasons to remodel your kitchen. First of all, it will increase the value of your home. Obviously, if you are selling your home, it could help you sell faster. People want to move into a house that they don’t have to worry about updating. Since the kitchen is the most important room in the house, it makes sense to remodel it. Please see the links below about that detail how even though the housing market is not great, people are still remodeling their kitchens. They are very interesting articles.

Marsh Cabinets

October 27th, 2007

I have been selling cabinets on the internet for almost 2 years and Marsh Furniture has been with me since day 1. They manufacture great products and the prices are incredible. Their 5 year warranty is one of the best in the business. All of my customers are happy with the cabinets and I look forward to continuing to offer their products to the American consumer. I know that the quality speaks for itself, but the lead time is also the best in the business! You can have custom ordered cabinets at your doorstep in 3 weeks or less!

I recently had the opportunity to remodel my own kitchen and chose Marsh. I used the High Point Windsor in Sienna with a chocolate glaze. I opted for the wood drawer upgrade with the soft close drawer glides. I always tell my customers what a nice feature they are, and now that they are in my house, I can actually say that they are AWESOME! I recently had a professional photographer, David Fukumoto (www.davidfukumoto.com) take some pictures of my kitchen. I will add a page on www.ushomeproducts.com soon, but for now you can see some of the images here.

Marsh Furniture is a great kitchen cabinet manufacturer and I am sure you will love their cabinets.
